What is a Water Softener?
A water softener removes the minerals that cause hard water from your water supply, such as calcium & magnesium. Once treated through a water softener, the softened water provides multiple benefits to the systems it feeds, including; reduced maintenance costs, improved efficiency & reduced risk from microorganisms like Legionella.

Do you need water softener servicing & repairs?
Water softeners rarely need any servicing. They are designed with easy maintenance and ownership in mind. To keep them running efficiently and performing to their best, all you need to do is keep them topped up with salt.
Water softeners can run for years with no servicing. All you have to do is keep them topped up with salt, this regenerates the machine and flushes away any hard minerals that might otherwise accumulate.
Even the best equipment needs occasional servicing to keep operating at its best. We offer ongoing support by helping homes and businesses deal with breakdowns fast.
How much does a water softener cost?
The cost of water softeners is not too prohibitive. They will set you back just a few hundred pounds, depending on your requirements. The money that you pay out up-front will come back to you in savings on soaps and relatively trouble-free running of your domestic appliances.
Water softeners perform an unseen service, by preventing breakdowns to the likes of boilers, washing machines and dishwashers, which can occur due to the constricting effects of limescale build-up within pipes and valves.
Limescale is a hard chalky deposit, consisting mainly of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), that often builds up inside kettles, hot water boilers, and pipework, especially that for hot water. It is also often found as a similar deposit on the inner surfaces of old pipes and other surfaces where “hard water” has evaporated.
Where do you install a water softener?
Water softener systems should ideally be installed near to the incoming mains water supply with access to a drain and electricity. All devices will also lose an amount of pressure when installed, which will be in the region of 0.5 bar and 1.0 bar, so can be installed on high flow applications and direct feed applications.
The benefits of a water softener
- Save money on cleaning products
- Extend the life of dishwashers, pipework, and boilers
- Help ease irritation to dry skin conditions like eczema
- No more chalky deposits on the glass
- No more limescale build-up
- Cleaner softer feeling clothes, hair, and skin
